United States Presidential Election of 1924
Coolidge won 382 to 136 as La Follette's progressive third party drew 17 percent.
Overview
Coolidge, restored to popularity amid prosperity, beat Democrat John W. Davis, the weakest Democratic performance ever at 28.8 percent, 382 to 136, while Wisconsin's Fighting Bob La Follette took 16.6 percent and his home state's 13 electors on the Progressive ticket. The schism between Democratic conservatives and progressives, centered on the KKK's influence at the New York convention, crippled the opposition. La Follette's showing kept progressivism alive for the New Deal coalition to absorb.
